New Foundations has received generous gifts of new reading glasses allowing us to undertake several poor vision camps each year. Five of our Health Care Workers have been specifically trained in community eye care in Calabar and undertake visual acuity testing for each patient.
The reaction to new glasses and visual clarity seem to engender various expressions of sobriety, joy or surprise, reactions that always give vitality to the clinics.During triage we identify more serious cases , cataract , glaucoma, trauma, cancers and infections that are referred to hospital or treated where possible. We are looking toward cataract surgery for several identified with cataracts in late September.

For some being able to read again is joy, for others it allows access to work and study.

For some, the Word of God is once more accessible, each pair of spectacles costing £1.
